The Grooms CottageThe Groom's Cottage is a romantic retreat popular with couples looking for a romantic getaway or for family breaks (sleeps 2 or up to 4 plus cot).

This enchanting character two bedroom stone built cottage adjoins the C16th manor house, nestling between two other cottages overlooking a courtyard & gardens. Cosy & decorated traditionally it has exposed beams and log burning stove.

It overlooks a courtyard to the front and gardens to the rear where a private patio with picnic bench table leads to 5 acres of secluded shared sculpture gardens & seasonal outdoor pool.

Off the beaten track in rural N Devon on the Cornwall border near the breathtaking coast (7 miles), village with pub, garage & shops (1.5 miles). Bude and Clovelly 10 miles.

 

 

 

 

The cottage front door opens into an attractive ground floor room with exposed beams comprising open plan sitting area, dining area and well equipped kitchen.  Main features:

The cosy and characterful sitting room area with views into the garden has:

  • feature fireplace with working log burning stove
  • flat screen digital TV
  • a comortable and traditional cottage style floral print linen three seater sofas and matching armchair
  • occasional tables and lamp
  • a night storage heater, a radiator and an electrical convector heater
  • CO detector and fire extinguisher

 

The dining area:

  • circular wooden dining table and four chairs
  • night storage heater
  • highchair available if needed

 

The kitchen area comprises:

  • under counter dishwasher
  • refrigerator with ice compartment
  • built in electric cooker with oven, grill and hob
  • microwave
  • sink and drainer (small selection of cleaning manterials under sink)
  • cutlery and crockery for four is provided as well as tea towels, washing up sponge and cloth
  • fire blanket and fire extinguisher

 

Other:

  • vacuum cleaner
  • iron and ironing board
  • logs for woodburner, if required, may be bought locally
  • sleeps from 2 up to 4 plus cot

 

    The rear door leads out of the sitting room to a patio with wooden picnic bench table and small garden which opens into the 5 acres of shared grounds of the manor house which you are welcome to use.

     

    An open tread staircase leads to the first floor with:

     

    • a characterful main bedroom with exposed roof timbers has antique pine style double bed, matching bedside tables, chest of drawers and wardrobe, wall mounted electrical convector heater and mirrors
    •  
    • an L-shaped second bedroom with two single beds, antique style pine wardrobe and chest of drawers and stool
    •  
    • a fully tiled bathroom has a white bathroom suite including bath, electric shower (over bath), pedestal wash-basin, shaver point and light, toilet, heated stainless steel towel rail, extractor fan and wall mounted electric fan heater

     

    The landing area has:

    • smoke detector
    • airing cupboard
    • fire extinguisher
    • timed immersion water heater with boost button if needed

     

    Other information:

    • electricity included in tariff
    • bed linen and towels are included if required (please bring your own beach or pool towels)
    • logs for woodburner, if required, may be bought locally
    • sleeps from 2 up to 4 plus cot

     

    There is a seasonal shared outdoor swimming pool (May to Sep) and sculptures exhibited by local artists in the main gardens. The gardens comprise lawned areas, woodland, shrubbery and wild patches with a lovely bluebell wood each May.

    Due to minimal light pollution we are one of the remaining dark sky areas so on cloudless nights the night sky, stars, planets, satellites and shooting stars can be clearly seen.

    Please note that due to the Covid-19 pandemic we have followed industry and government guidelines to reduce risk to guests, ourselves and others. Consequently we have reduced the number of high traffic touch surfaces in the property by removing cushions, throws, some ornaments, books, magazines, guest comment books, tourism leaflets, extra blankets, games, complimentary products. Despite reduced restrictions we continue these practices and cleaning protocols as best practice and in order to comply with legal covid risk assessments.
